So, Anna was too stressed out and tired from all her studying and driving back and forth to Boston to entertain me this weekend up in Maine... I was left to my own devices, which is kind of a bummer, but at least it means I get to watch my (fakely and temporarily) beloved Spaniards against the hated Germans in the Euro 2008 final. I went up to Tavern on the Square a full 45 minutes before the match was supposed to start to ensure I could get seat at the bar and eat my lunch. The crowd was strangely subdued, and I didn't notice a single person who looked like they were anticipating the game. Pretty odd given all the European post docs in this city and soccer fans in the Northeast in general. It took me until about 5 minutes before the match was supposed to start and they were still showing softball and billiards that I noticed that there was a problem that the scrolling ESPN ticker had been trying to alert me to...

The game is at 2:45 ET on Sunday. I was ready a full 24 hours in advance. See, that's dedication to the sport.

Since I've already had my 5 dollar beer and 10 dollar mediocre burger allotment for the weekend, I might stay home and write up a Bill Simmon's-esque running diary tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.
