Obama Repudiates Wright

I hadn't written anything about Obama's former pastor Reverend Wright's return to the spotlight this weekend, because all I had seen was his PBS appearance which seemed fine and reasonable... I mean the man's reputation had been pretty heavily trashed, so it's not like the guy needs to hide under a rock, right? I didn't bother to check out any of his other appearances... but... well... it seems he sort of put on a show yesterday. Still standing behind Farrakhan, the categorization of American foreign policy as terrorism, and that AIDS is a plot of the US government. Honestly, it's hard not to conclude from that display that he's pretty much throwing Obama under the bus for his own time in the spotlight.

It really seemed that Obama was going to have to do what he has refused to do up to this point... finally sever all ties to Reverend Wright.

Well today in NC he pushed back as hard as he can:

The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago. His comments were not only divisive and destructive, but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate, and I believe that they do not portray accurately the perspective of the black church.

They certainly don't portray accurately my values and beliefs. And if Reverend Wright thinks that that's political posturing, as he put it, then he doesn't know me very well. And based on his remarks yesterday, well, I might not know him as well as I thought, either.

I don't know what difference it will make, but it seems it had to be done.

LATE UPDATE:
Here is the Q&A
